The Process
How does yoga therapy work?
When working with me as a Yoga Therapist, you and I will complete a full biological, psychological, social, and spiritual assessment in your first session. After we collaborate on your short-term and long-term goals, I will give you a customized daily practice consisting of gentle movement, breath work, and therapeutic meditation ranging from 5–30 minutes in length. After that, you choose the frequency of our check-in sessions that is accessible to your lifestyle. Over time, and with your body's responses guiding our way, we will build an index of practices that will serve your specific nervous system's needs as they change over the course of one year.
Traditionally, yoga has been taught from one Teacher to one Student. Modern Yoga Therapy has preserved this ancient structure in order to more precisely meet your specific needs and build a supportive relationship with your Yoga Therapist. I am grateful for each and every Client that has decided to walk down this path and thank you for taking interest in these ancient practices.

Katherine Quayhagen
A native Louisianan, Katherine has been a practitioner of yoga since 2006. After a life-changing experience in Madagascar as a Peace Corps Volunteer, Katherine started pursuing yogic studies in a deeper context.
Katherine spent four years teaching hatha and perinatal yoga as a 500 Hour RYT in studios and underserved community spaces around New Orleans. Katherine was then given the opportunity to construct a yoga-centric wellness department with Longbranch Healthcare, a dual diagnosis and holistic treatment organization on the Northshore. She now oversees a team of Wellness practitioners that provide yoga therapy and other healing modalities to over 100+ patients on a daily basis. Katherine completed the three year yoga therapy training in the Krishnamacharya lineage with the Optimal State of Living program in 2022. She is currently a C-IAYT Yoga Therapist, a Wellness Director, and a Yoga Nidra Instructor.
By incorporating her love for nature and civic engagement into her work with others, Katherine hopes to aid in each of her Clients’ cultivation of inner-safety, self-trust, and thereby - communal connection. She is in constant gratitude to her Mentors – her daughter, Amy Wheeler, Becky Deano, Geoffrey Roniger, Jane Austen, and the Goddess Durga. Music, friendship, Mardi Gras, and tree frogs bring her deep joy.
